| Spanish abstract | Habitantes de la Sierra Tarahumara, al norte de México, los rarámuris tienen en su diversidad dancística una de las principales fuentes de expresión. Entre todas ellas, los matachines, danza de origen colonial que se extiende por todo México, tiene entre los rarámuris un desarrollo peculiar, a través del cual no sólo se identifican como pueblo sino que además manifiestan su pluralidad cultural. Con base en los datos de once meses de trabajo de campo, se intenta responder a una serie de preguntas, entre ellas: ¿Cómo se encuentran distribuidos y diferenciados por el territorio? ¿Qué rasgos coreográficos generales los distinguen según se trate de la Alta o la Baja Tarahumara? ¿Qué papel juega una tradición reinventada como vehículo expresivo de la pluralidad cultural? |
| English abstract | The Rarámuris, who inhabit the Tarahumara range in the north of Mexico, have in the diversity of their dances one of their main sources of expression. The matachín dance, which has a colonial origin that extends all over Mexico, has had among the Rarámuris a peculiar evolution that is not only a source of identity but is also used to express their cultural plurality. Based on data obtained mainly during eleven months of field work, the author tries to respond to several questions such as: How are the different matachín dances distributed in the Rarámuri territory? What are the main characteristics that distinguish the High and Low Tarahumara regions? What is the role played by a tradition reinvented as a vehicle for the expression of cultural plurality? |
