| Spanish abstract | En este trabajo las categorías de violencia doméstica y resistencia son abordadas, como una parte específica de la problemática de violencia que sufren las mujeres en Ciudad Juárez. Por lo que al realizar el análisis de dichas categorías éste se genera de dos interrogantes a resolver y que son: ¿por qué las mujeres son violentadas dentro del hogar y/o la familia? y, ¿de qué forma la resisten? El propósito entonces, del texto que se presenta, es el de situar las categorías mencionadas en la discusión teórica feminista, sobre cómo surge esta violencia y por qué se resiste. Para esto, el trabajo aborda dos de las instituciones sociales más representativas como son la familia y el matrimonio. | English abstract | In this article, two basic questions guide my analysis into the issue of domestic violence as it affects women in Ciudad Juarez: 1) what is the reason for domestic violence against women? and 2) how do they resist this violence? To address these questions, I use the concepts of gender and resistance from a feminist framework to examine the social institutions of marriage and family and the hierarchies they support. In this way, I analyze the power relationships within marriage and family, where domestic violence takes place and where gender roles are put into play. Therefore, I am also examining how women and men are constructed as distinct subjects with specific identities that are situated differentially within the hierarchies of marriage and family. A part of this differentiation includes discrimination against women who are socially constructed as subordinate to men within marriage and family. When women resist this social positioning, they also reveal many of the complex processes that contribute to domestic violence and to their own strategies for surviving and overcoming it |
