| Spanish abstract | El periodo inicial de la tipografía neogranadina, desde que encontramos los primeros testimonios impresos en 1738 hasta que en 1782 la Imprenta Real comenzara una producción continuada, es fundamental en la historia de la edición colombiana para entender los sucesivos periodos que le siguen. Los tipos móviles, los cajistas y correctores ejercieron un papel decisivo como mediadores culturales y productores de textos impresos en forma de libro y periódico que fueron reemplazando el valor de la escritura hacia la lectura. | English abstract | The beginning of Nueva Granada printing ranges from the first printed testimonies we found from 1738 up to 1782 when the Royal Press (la Imprenta Real) starts with a continuing production. It is a fundamental time in the history of Colombian printing to understand the subsequent time that followed. Movable types, typesetters and correctors had a decisive role as cultural mediators and producers of printed texts as books and newspapers which replaced the value of writing with reading.
