| Spanish abstract | Este artículo pone en relación la personalidad del escritor húngaro Sándor Márai con su obra, desde la perspectiva del escritor burgués. Perteneciente a la tradición literaria centroeuropea, Márai formó parte también de la generación fin de siècle que, tal como Thomas Mann y Stefan Zweig, se interesaron por los problemas sociales y políticos pero, sobre todo, culturales, que supuso el siglo XX para Europa. De este modo, su obra refleja la agonía de los viejos valores burgueses occidentales; su personalidad escéptica, de apátrida, es el testimonio de su imposibilidad para encontrar su lugar en el mundo tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial |
| English abstract | From the perspective of the bourgeois writer, this paper relates the personality of the Hungarian writer, Sándor Márai, to his own literary production. Heir to the Central European tradition, he belonged to the fin de siecle generation which, such as Thomas Mann and Stefan Zweig, tackled the social, political, but mainly cultural problems posed by the 20th century to Europe. This way, Márai's works reflect the agony of the ancient bourgeois values in the western hemisphere; his stateless, skeptical personality constitutes a testimony of its own impossibility to find a place in the postwar world |
