| Spanish abstract | El acto de lanzarse al mar como método suicida ha estado ligado a la mujer desde la Grecia antigua. Los llamados ‘Cantos de mujeres’, un género de la poesía lírica griega creado específicamente para ser representado por mujeres o niñas, nos ofrecen información muy relevante sobre el rito de paso de la doncellez al matrimonio en el que las jóvenes núbiles entregaban su virginidad a un dios-río. El presente artículo pretende hilvanar los varios hilos de, quizás, una historia conectada a través de los siglos, tanto en la literatura como en la iconografía |
| English abstract | The act of immersing oneself into the sea as a suicide, has been linked to women from Ancient Greece. The “Women’s songs” give us the most relevant information about the rite of passage, from virginity to marriage. By this rite, the young maidens offer their virginity to the God-river. This article tries to link the various threads of, maybe, a connected story, in Literature and in Iconography |
