| Spanish abstract | En los últimos años del porfiriato el progreso material se había extendido a muchas regiones y poblados del país; bajo la égida del progreso se construyeron escuelas, hospitales, carreteras, obras monumentales, etc. Uno de los estados que se benefició por la llegada del ferrocarril fue Aguascalientes y, aunque varias jurisdicciones locales seguían inmersas en su ancestral aislamiento, buscaron formas de sumarse al progreso. El partido de Calvillo no fue la excepción. | English abstract | During the late years of the Porfiriato, material progress had spread to many regions and localities in Mexico. Under the aegis of progress, schools, hospitals, highways and monumental works, etc., had been built. One of the Mexican states that benefited from the arrival of the railroad was Aguascalientes, where several local jurisdictions—though still immersed in their ancestral isolation—sought ways to climb onto the bandwagon of “progress”. Calvillo district was no exception. It was in that context that the festivals commemorating the Centennial of Mexico’s Independence in 1910 were held; an occasion particularly well-suited to presenting a strong, consolidated image of the regime at the national, regional and local levels |
