Spanish abstract Este trabajo analiza la trayectoria del primer templo católico de Tijuana. Sus orígenes se remontan a finales del siglo XIX, bajo la administración de misioneros provenientes de California. Iniciado el siglo XX se instaló un pequeño templo de madera, similar a una iglesia protestante del medio rural estadounidense, que durante las siguientes décadas adquirió rasgos más similares a los de un templo católico mexicano. Esto se consolida a mediados de siglo, al darle el rango de catedral de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Asimismo, la historia de este templo se encuentra vinculada a las tensiones políticas entre Iglesia y Estado, y al papel que distintas organizaciones sociales tuvieron en ello
English abstract This paper analyzes the history of the first Catholic church of Tijuana. Its origins date back to the late 19th century, under the administration of missionaries from California. Started in the 20th century, a small wooden temple with the characteristics of a Protestant church in rural America would be installed, which during the following decades it acquired features more like those of a Mexican Catholic temple. This would be consolidated by the middle of the century, giving it the status of Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
