| Spanish abstract | El objetivo del artículo es analizar la revista América en 1940-1960 como un espacio privilegiado para el estudio de procesos históricos nacionales y transnacionales. El estudio está basado en un análisis exhaustivo y novedoso del material publicado en la revista, complementado con fuentes primarias y secundarias mexicanas y extranjeras. El texto revela que América constituyó un elemento central en una red intelectual y política nacida de la confluencia de grupos vinculados al Estado revolucionario mexicano, la izquierda y el exilio español en México. El análisis de los grupos, ideas y transformaciones de América permite identificar aspectos relevantes, muchos de ellos inéditos, de la trama social, política e ideológica del mundo cultural mexicano de la época, entre ellos, la evolución desde el antifascismo hacia el anticomunismo y la relación entre el Estado mexicano y los intelectuales |
| English abstract | The article analyzes the magazine América in 1940-1960 as a privileged political and cultural space for studying national and transnational historical processes. It is based in an exhaustive and novel analysis of the material published in the magazine and complemented with Mexican and foreign primary and secondary sources. The article shows that América played a central role in an in intellectual and political network born out of the convergence of groups linked to the Mexican revolutionary state, the left, and the Spanish exile in Mexico. The analysis of América’s groups, ideas, and transformations allows the identification of relevant aspects, many of them original and unpublished, regarding the social, political, and ideological linkages of the contemporary Mexican cultural world, among them, the evolution from antifascism to anticommunism and the relationship between the Mexican state and intellectuals |
