| Spanish abstract | Este trabajo aborda las circunstancias que han posibilitado el surgimiento de "jefaturas femeninas" en los hogares de dos localidades del municipio de Santiago Tangamandapio, Michoacán. Muestra cómo las mujeres de estos lugares lograron una visibilidad y un protagonismo que, en muchos casos, no es percibido por ellas mismas; y valora cómo la participación laboral de las mujeres y su aporte al hogar se ha extendido gracias a los cambios en las representaciones del ser y hacer femenino, pues ellas ya no sólo se dedican al hogar y al cuidado de los hijos, sino que están construyendo otras representaciones de mujer: trabajadora, líder o jefa de familia |
| English abstract | This paper focuses on the circumstances that have enabled the emergence of "female-headed households" in the homes of two localities in the municipality of Santiago Tangamandapio, Michoacán. It shows how women in these places achieved more visibility and prominence, which in many cases is not perceived by the women themselves. The paper also assesses how the participation of women in the labor force and their contribution to the household has increased thanks to changes in representations of what being and acting as a woman entails, because they are no longer devoted only to household and childcare, but building other representations of women as workers, leaders, or heads of households |
