| Spanish abstract | El presente estudio ofrece una lectura del paratexto verbal e ilustrativo del relato Cocorí. Específicamente, analiza la polifonía textual inscrita, es decir, el texto cultural de la conquista de Costa Rica, en particular, y de América, en general, por medio del título, del apellido del autor, del epígrafe, de la ilustración de la portada y su reproducción en la octava parte del contexto. Además contempla la difracción semántica que se opera en el significante Cocorí y, por consiguiente, la subversión de la semántica de la conquista en términos de la inferioridad cultural, de la degradación racial, del cacique vencido y de la degeneración de la lengua |
| English abstract | The present study offers a verbal and illustrative para-textual reading of the story Cocorí. Specifically, it analices the inscribed textual polyphony —the cultural text of the conquest of Costa Rica, in particular, and America, in general—, by means of the title, the author’s surname, yhe epigraph, the cover picture and its reproduction in the eighth part of the co-text. Besides, the semantic dif fraction taking place in the signifier Cocorí is considered and consequently , the subversión of the semantics of the conquest in terms of cultural inferiority, racial degeneration, the defeated Indian chief and the degeneration of the language |
