English abstract | The focus of this essay is on lhe working of the present Mexican vocational and technical educational system as well as on the reforms that are affecting its functioning in order to satisfy the economy’s labor quality needs due to an incrcasing international competition. Emphasis is put on the analysis of training institutions for unemployed and employed workers, and those that prepare youth for the labour market. Specifically, two lines of the educational reform are analysed. First, the decentralization of the technical and vocational education and, second, the introduction of a competency-based educational model. The main theses are supported for empirical evidence. It is concluded that gradual and significant changes are required in order to achieve the reform’s goals and, therefore, they he achived in the long run |
