| Spanish abstract | A lo largo de la historia, la sequía ha sido vista como un fenómeno errático e imprevisible que constituye una desviación respecto a los valores medios de precipitación a largo plazo y que se dan de un año a otro. Por consiguiente, una de las grandes preocupaciones de los climatólogos ha sido conocer las causas que determinan su frecuencia. Por tal motivo, esta investigación tiene como objetivo central relacionar los principales trabajos que se han realizado sobre las sequías en el siglo XIX. Posteriormente, se confrontan las conclusiones de estos autores con los registros meteorológicos y documentación sobre sequías localizados en el Archivo General de la Nación (AGN), lo cual permite establecer un marco de referencia sobre las grandes sequías regionales que se observaron en México durante esa época. El propósito final de este trabajo es sentar las bases que permitan conocer las grandes sequías en dicho siglo y su periodicidad |
| English abstract | Throughout history, droughts have been considered to be erratic and unforeseeable phenomena that constitute a deviation with respect to the average measured values of long term precipitation, which happen to occur every once in a while. Therefore, one of the greatest interests of climatologists has been to learn the causes that determine the frequency of droughts. For this reason, the present paper discusses the principal studies on droughts in the 19th Century. The insights of these scholars are confronted with meteorological registers and documentation on droughts located in Mexico's Archivo General de la Nación (the Nation's General Archives), which allows the construction of a frame of reference on the great regional droughts that were observed in Mexico during the period under discussion. The final purpose of this work is to lay the foundations that allow us to know more about the great droughts in this time period and their regularity |
