| Spanish abstract | En este ensayo exploramos la contribución de la primera generación de mujeres etnógrafas al desarrollo de la Antropología Social, especialmente en su desempeño en el avance del pensamiento feminista que ahora se conoce como Antropología de Género. Nuestro punto de partida es que las investigaciones tempranas fueron construidas esencialmente desde una perspectiva androcéntrica y esa noción se consideró válida en cualquier individuo, hombres, mujeres y otras categorías socio- sexuales (Nanda y Warms, 2004: 236; Stolcke, 1996: 335; Martin, 2006: 68; Aixelá, 2004). Por esa razón, en las investigaciones antropológicas tempranas, el estatus de las mujeres, sus trabajos, productos y actividades fueron a menudo ignorados u omitidos. Sin embargo, hay un número importante de antropólogas quienes abordaron esos aspectos en una diversidad de culturas y sociedades desde la perspectiva feminista aunque sus contribuciones no fueron completamente apreciadas. | English abstract | In this essay we explore the contributions of the first generations of women ethnographers to the development of Social Anthropology, especially their role in the advance of feminist thought and which later became know as the Anthropology of Gender. Our point of departure is that early anthropology was construed essentially from an androcentric perspective, and that notions considered valid about culture, humans, society and sexuality were generally malecentered (Nanda y Warms, 2004: 236, (Stolcke, 1996: 335; Martin, 2006: 68; Aixelá, 2004)). For this reason, in early anthropological research, women´s status, work, products and activities were often ignored, glossed over, or received little theoretical analysis. Nonetheless, there were a number of important female anthropologists who provided early insights into culture and society from a feminist perspective, even though their achievements often were not fully appreciated.
