| Spanish abstract | Este artículo tiene como objetivo contribuir a la formulación de una visión alterna de las investigaciones urbanas, a partir de una mirada epistemológica que rescate los atributos de complejidad que definen a la ciudad en cuanto objeto de estudio. Se abordan, desde una dimensión epistemológica, los desafíos metodológicos más importantes que surgen al investigador de lo urbano una vez que éste confronta las diversas manifestaciones de complejidad que atraviesan a la ciudad, tales como: la naturaleza multidimensional de su objeto de estudio, el movimiento y las temporalidades no lineales, la causalidad sistémica, la heterogeneidad estructural y funcional de las entidades estudiadas, entre otros de sus atributos, aquí definidos como vectores de complejidad. Dichos vectores de complejidad son analizados uno a uno, sin perder de vista sus interrelaciones. Se concluye en la necesidad de encontrar los lazos que imbrican a los vastos y diversos signos de complejidad de lo urbano con las eventuales vías sobre las cuales el investigador de estos tópicos puede erigir una epistemología de la complejidad específica para la ciudad y lo urbano, aún en construcción |
| English abstract | This article proposes a contribution to the formulation of an alternative visión of urban research based on an epistemological perspective that rescues the attributes of complexity that define the city as an object of study. Through this epistemological dimension, the essay examines the key methodological challenges for urban researchers who face the varied manifestations of the complexity of the city, including: the multidimensional nature of this object of study, movement and nonlinear temporalities, systemic causality, and the structural and functional heterogeneity of the entities studied, among other attributes that are defined here as a series of complexity vectors. These vectors are analyzed one-by-one, but without losing sight of their interrelationships. The study concludes that it is necessary to find links that interrelate the vast and various signs of complexity of the urban phenomenon with the potential pathways upon which research into these topics can continue the construction of an epistemology for the specific complexity of the city and the urban that is still in process |
