| English abstract | included 172 athletes, from five different sports, ranging in age from 14 to 58 years old (mean age 21 years, DP=5,99). The scale was composed of 54 items (on a three-point Likert scale) that described various aggressive behaviors. The subjects were asked to indicate the frequency of the behaviors from “always” to “sometimes” and “never.”. The differential item functioning results by sex pointed to six items favoring one of the groups. The data were analyzed by means of principal components analysis with a varimax rotation and suggested a three factor structure explaining 44,31% of the variance. The dimensions were, Intimidation, External Aggression and Internal Aggression. Chronbach’s alphas ranged from 0,74 to 0,90. No significant differences of the dimensions were observed between the studied sports. These data enables the instrument to be used in future research |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artigo descreve o desenvolvimento de uma medida de avaliação da agressividade em atletas. Foram investigados 172 atletas de cinco modalidades esportivas distintas, com idades entre 14 e 58 anos, com média de 21 anos (DP=5,99). A escala foi composta de 54 itens descritores de condutas agressivas no esporte com respostas fechadas no formato likert com três níveis possíveis de avaliação, em que o atleta deveria assinalar a frequência de ocorrência entre sempre (2 pontos), às vezes (1 ponto) e nunca (0 ponto). Os resultados da análise de funcionamento diferencial de itens por sexo, revelaram que somente seis participantes demonstraram favorecer um ou outro desses grupos. A análise de componentes principais e rotação Varimax sugeriram uma estrutura de três fatores que explicaram 44,31% de variância. Os fatores foram Condutas Intimidativas, Comportamento Agressivo Declarado, Agressividade Encoberta. Os coeficientes alfa de Cronbach variaram de 0,74 a 0,90. Não foram encontradas diferenças significativas em nenhum dos fatores entre as modalidades esportivas estudadas. Esses resultados habilitam o instrumento para o uso em futuras pesquisas |
