English abstract | The Andrew Abbott’s jurisdiction theory and the social capital theory are approaches that may contribute to the studies of the information professional. The former takes into consideration the professions as a system with interrelated parts, guided by space and power claims, and which are based on knowledge and skills. The later shows that the relations are part of a system, whose emphasis is on the relationship among different actors involved in the network. The main goal of this paper is to establish a comparison between these two theories in order to promote discussions about a possible new way to understand the information professional subject |
