| English abstract | It explores the possibility that both the elite of authors and those who are at research front, in the area of authors’ productivity or Lotka’s law, are the consequence of their position in the field of Bibliometrics. To achieve this purpose, we adopted the concepts of “habitus”, “cultural capital”, “field”, and “practice theory”, developed by Pierre Bourdieu. When analyzing the formation of the elite and the research front from the perspective of the position occupied by authors, it appears that explanatory variables are the fact that authors devote themselves to teaching as university professors. In addition, taking part in the editorial board of an academic journal, being director of a information center, or leader in an association or professional organization are variables that grant visibility, prestige and authority in the researched area, thence, likely to be cited. From the perspective of the habitus of the authors in the field of Bibliometrics, it was found that having obtained the academic degree of doctor, which somehow ensures the mastery of matrices that make it possible to have familiarity with the doxa of the area, as well as being trained in the statistical, mathematical and scientometric secrets are the variables with the greatest explicative chances |
| Portuguese abstract | Explora a possibilidade de que tanto os autores da elite quanto àqueles que constituem a frente de pesquisa na área da produtividade dos autores ou lei de Lotka, sejam conseqüência da posição que ocupam no campo da Bibliometría. Para lograr este propósito foram adotados os conceitos de “habitus”, “capital cultural”, “campo” e “teoria da prática”, desenvolvidos por Pierre Bourdieu. Quando se analisa a formação da elite e da frente de pesquisa desde a perspectiva da posição ocupada pelos autores, verifica-se que as variáveis explicativas são pelo fato de os autores se dedicarem ao ensino, na condição de ser professor universitário. Também o participar do comitê editorial de uma revista acadêmica, de ser diretor de um centro de informação ou de documentação, bem como de ser dirigente de uma associação ou organização da categoria profissional do autor, outorga visibilidade, prestígio e autoridade na área pesquisada, portanto, com chances de ser citado. Já a partir da perspectiva do habitus dos autores na área da bibliometria, verificou-se que as variáveis que oferecem maiores chances explicativas são o fato de ter obtido o grau acadêmico de doutor que, de certa forma, garante o domínio das matrizes que tornam possível a familiaridade com a doxa da área, assim como por ter sido treinado nos segredos estatísticos, matemáticos e cienciométricos |
