| English abstract | This article aims to make a brief inflection in the thought of Theodor W. Adorno, in particular, in his considerations on the theme of barbarism displayed in Auschwitz. This event has become a symbol of the twentieth century, containing not only an isolated episode, but a totality of meanings of rationalized barbarism. In this essay, we are interested in an analysis of the submission forms of human rationality to instrumental forms of contemporary social organization. We understand that these forms reverberate in the constitution of subjectivities subdued by the dictates of a new rationalized barbarism. If Auschwitz was the “sophisticated barbarism” of the twentieth century, today civilization exposes a barbarism that is even more sophisticated. The aim of this study is to discuss this new barbarism within the framework of a critical theory, especially in terms of an immanent critique of Theodor W. Adorno. In these terms, the goal here is to reassess rationality from the confrontation with the aesthetic expression, especially Adorno’s striking sentence “to write a poem after Auschwitz is barbaric.” This sentence directs a possible reflection on such immanent critique in the current aesthetic elaborations, especially regarding the creation of subjectivity |
| Portuguese abstract | O presente artigo pretende fazer uma breve inflexão no pensamento de Theodor W. Adorno, de modo particular, em suas considerações sobre o tema da barbárie figurada em Auschwitz. Esse evento tornou-se um símbolo do século XX, que contém não só um episódio isolado, mas uma totalidade de significados da barbárie racionalizada. Neste ensaio, interessa-nos uma análise das formas de submissão da racionalidade humana às formas instrumentais da organização social contemporânea. Entendemos que essas formas reverberam na constituição de subjetividades subjugadas aos ditames de uma nova barbárie racionalizada. Se Auschwitz foi a “barbárie sofisticada” do século XX, hoje a civilização expõe sua barbárie ainda mais sofisticada. Propõe-se aqui discutir o tema dessa nova barbárie nos marcos de uma teoria crítica, sobretudo na perspectiva de uma crítica imanente de Theodor W. Adorno. Nesses termos, o objetivo aqui é reavaliar a racionalidade a partir do enfrentamento com a expressividade estética, sobretudo da impactante frase adorniana “escrever um poema após Auschwitz é bárbaro”. Essa frase orienta uma possível reflexão sobre tal crítica imanente nas elaborações estéticas atuais, sobretudo no que tange à formação da subjetividade |
