| Spanish abstract | El ensayo ofrece un esbozo del lugar del trabajo de Donald Davidson en el estudio de las semánticas formales para los lenguajes naturales. Se discuten algunas relaciones importantes entre el trabajo de Davidson y las ideas de Frege, Tarski, Quine y Chomsky. Se presenta una crítica a la metodología conductista de Davidson y se defiende el enfoque cognitivo de Larson y Segal a la semántica. Se argumenta también que las condiciones de satisfacción y verdad de las expresiones del lenguaje natural no necesitan relativizarse a contextos de conversación |
| English abstract | The paper provides a sketch of the place of the work of Donald Davidson in the study of formal semantics for natural languages. It discusses some important relations between Davidson’s work and ideas due to Frege, Tarski, Quine and Chomsky. A criticism of Davidson’s behaviouristic methodology is offered, and Larson and Segal cognitive approach to linguistic semantics is defended. It is also argued that satisfaction and truth conditions of expressions of natural languages need not to be relativised to conversational contexts |
