| Spanish abstract | La esquematización que de Hume realiza Jhon Bricke, me condujo a plantear ciertas preguntas que encuentran un terreno fértil en el análisis que sobre la simpatía realiza Hume. Esta propuesta plantea como hipótesis fundamental que el deseo de ser apreciado es el rasgo fundamental del ser apasionado que Hume contempla en el Libro II del Tratado. Dicho deseo esta vinculado a las afecciones de orgullo y aprecio, así como al ansia de aquellos bienes (riqueza, poder, belleza, virtud) considerados por Hume causas de dichas afecciones. La hipótesis esclarece posibles relaciones entre las afecciones de aprecio y orgullo, simpatía y comparación, y hace posible una lectura particular del origen natural de la convención |
| English abstract | The central hypothesis set forth in this essay is that the desire to be appreciated is the fundamental feature of the passionate being described by Hume in the context of his analysis of sympathy in Book II of the Treatise. That desire is linked to the affections of pride and appreciation, as well as to the yearning for those goods (wealth, power, beauty, and virtue), which Hume considers the causes of such affections. Said hypothesis clarifies the potential relationships between the affections of appreciation and pride, as well as of sympathy and comparison, and it makes possible a peculiar reading of the natural origin of convention |
