| Spanish abstract | Este artículo examina la red de comercio justo dentro del contexto del régimen internacional de desarrollo de la posguerra. En años recientes, la venta de productos básicos agrícolas de comercio justo ha crecido rápidamente en el norte y la red de comercio justo ha sido relativamente exitosa en ganar el apoyo de instituciones públicas y corporaciones transnacionales. El artículo argumenta que este éxito, cuando es visto históricamente, sólo puede ser adecuadamente entendido como la otra cara de la derrota del movimiento más general de comercio justo, que buscó la regulación del mercado nacional e internacional y es, de hecho, un indicador del actual triunfo de la globalización neoliberal |
| English abstract | This paper examines the fair trade network within the context of the post-war international development regime. In recent years, the sale of fair trade agricultural commodities in the North has grown rapidly and the fair trade network has been relatively successful at gaining the support of public institutions and transnational corporations. The paper argues that this success, when viewed historically, can only be properly understood as the flip-side of the defeat of the broader fair trade movement which sought national and international market regulation and is in fact indicative of the current triumph of neoliberal globalization |
