| Spanish abstract | Reportamos el primer registro de la perdiz veracruzana o chivizcoyo (Dendrortyx barbatus) en la Sierra Norte de Tlaxcala. Realizamos un muestreo estratificado al azar recorriendo 142 trayectos a pie de 1 km de longitud en zonas agrícolas, bosque de táscate o sabino, bosque de encino-pino, bosque de pino y bosque de oyamel. Localizamos una pareja de chivizcoyos, de los cuales pudimos fotografiar a un individuo. Por medio de entrevistas no estructuradas a los lugareños logramos otros avistamientos y el registro de cantos. La presencia de esta especie en el estado de Tlaxcala sugiere que aún existe una continuidad de hábitat entre Puebla, Hidalgo y Veracruz, por lo que discutimos la importancia de este registro para la ampliación de su distribución conocida |
| English abstract | We report the first record of the Bearded Wood-Partridge (Dendrortyx barbatus) in the Sierra Norte of Tlaxcala, México. We surveyed 142 randomly stratified 1 km transects on crop lands, juniper forest, oak-pine forest, pine forest, and fir forest. We found a pair of Bearded Wood partridges and we were able to secure a picture of one of them. We obtained additional sightings and calls based on the information gathered with non-structured interviews to local people. The presence of the species in Tlaxcala suggests the existence of habitat continuity among Puebla, Hidalgo, and Veracruz; thus, we discuss the importance of this record in the species range expansion |
