| Spanish abstract | Durante el invierno 2007–2008 capturamos tres individuos de Junco hyemalis, junco ojo oscuro. Estos individuos se encontraron 600 kilómetros al sur del límite de su distribución invernal, en un bosque de oyamel (Abies religiosa) del Nevado de Colima, Jalisco. En ese mismo sitio, en 1959, W.J. Schaldach colectó un ejemplar de J. hyemalis; sin embargo, este registro ha pasado inadvertido hasta ahora para las avifaunas del estado de Jalisco. Adicionalmente, describimos la estructura de la vegetación del sitio de captura, los atributos de las aves capturadas y discutimos en qué otras zonas de México el junco ojo oscuro podría estar presente durante el invierno |
| English abstract | During the winter 2007–2008 we captured three individuals of the Dark–eyed Junco, Junco hyemalis. The birds were captured 600 kilometres south of their winter distribution, in a fir forest (Abies religiosa) of the Nevado de Colima, Jalisco. In the same site, in 1959, W.J. Schaldach collected a J. hyemalis specimen; however, this record went unnoticed until now by bird checklists of Jalisco. We describe the vegetation structure of the study site, the features of the captured birds and we discuss other potential zones of Mexico where the Dark–eyed Junco might spend the winter season |
