| English abstract | This study analyzes how the theory of scholars concerned with understanding the tensions between memory and forgetfulness can contribute to deal with issues connected to the memory of political repression in Brazilian dictatorship (1964-1985). Organizations commanded by the families of dead and disappeared and human rights organizations, among others, have consolidated policies for a better treatment of such issue in Brazil. Even though these policies are limited, it is clear that their achievement is deeply connected with a recast of the traditional vision of History, whereby to rescue the memories that were relegated by progress we must break the continuum of history such as thought by Walter Benjamin |
| Portuguese abstract | Identifica-se como a teoria de estudiosos que se focaram na compreensão da tensa relação entre memória e esquecimento pode contribuir para o enfrentamento de questões vinculadas à memória da repressão política no Brasil ditatorial (1964-1985). Organizações comandadas por familiares de mortos e desaparecidos políticos e entidades defensoras dos direitos humanos, entre outras, têm consolidado no país políticas com vistas a um melhor tratamento do tema. Ainda que tais políticas sejam limitadas, é perceptível que a sua concretização é intimamente vinculada a uma reformulação da visão historiográfica tradicional, segundo a qual, para se resgatar as memórias relegadas a um segundo plano pelo progresso, deve ser efetivada uma ruptura do continuum da história tal como pensado por Walter Benjamin |
