| Spanish abstract | Este artículo estudia el discurso del Partido Nacional uruguayo en las elecciones de 1925 y de 1926. En las primeras, Luis Alberto de Herrera, logró la victoria y se convirtió en el presidente del Consejo Nacional de Administración, rama colegiada del Ejecutivo. Por el contrario, en las presidenciales de 1926 no alcanzó la Primera Magistratura por muy escasos votos, lo que derivó en tres meses de arduas disputas legales entre el nacionalismo y el oficialista Partido Colorado. La prensa nacionalista, abordada con exhaustividad, constituye la principal fuente de esta investigación, que ahonda en los principales temas que interesaban a la colectividad blanca, ya sean reflexiones teóricas sobre su programa y el rol del partido en la vida del país en antítesis con sus adversarios, como las discusiones intrapartidarias sobre el mejor camino para posicionar al partido en las elecciones |
| English abstract | This article studies the National Uruguayan Party’s discourse during the 1925 and 1926 elections. In the first, Luis Alberto de Herrera, was victorious and became president of the National Council of Administration, the association’s executive branch. However, during the 1926 presidential elections he lost the first mandate by very few votes, which resulted in three months of arduous legal disputes between the Nationalists and the pro-government Colorado Party. The nationalist press was exhaustively studied and constitutes the primary source for this investigation. The press articles examined delve into the main topics that interested National Party leaders and voters. For example, the theoretical discussions about the party’s political platform, objectives, the role in the country’s life in antithesis with its adversaries, and debates within the party regarding the best way to face the elections |
