| English abstract | Until today, the consequences resulting from the so called “Arab Spring”, which began in December 2010, remain relatively unclear. But one thing seems to be certain: the Islamic religion will play a more prominent role in the future governments of many Arab states. This is unmistakably shown by the results of the new elections in the context of the “Arab spring” which have brought Islamic parties to power. How can this development be explained, especially against the background that Islam did not play any significant role at the beginning of the protests? Based on a discourse theoretical approach, this article argues that “Islam” has a long genealogy as a signifier for organized political resistance against regimes in power. This genealogy enabled Islamic organization to become involved in the “Arab spring” in a credible and convincing way, even if they joined its protests and the following political transformations relatively late |
| Portuguese abstract | Até os dias de hoje, parecem ser obscuras as consequências que resultam diretamente da chamada “Primavera Árabe”, movimento iniciado na região do Oriente Médio em dezembro de 2010. Apenas uma coisa parece certa: a religião islâmica deve começar a desempenhar um papel de maior relevo em muitos governos árabes. Tal constelação política pode ser facilmente percebida ao se considerar os resultados das mais recentes eleições que levaram muitos membros dos partidos islâmicos ao poder no contexto da “Primavera Árabe”. Como esse cenário pode ser explicado, sobretudo se levarmos em conta a fase inicial dessa onda de protestos, fase na qual o Islã não desempenhava nenhum papel importante? A partir de uma abordagem da teoria do discurso, este artigo defende a tese de que o “Islã” tem uma longa genealogia como um significante de resistência política organizada contra o regime no poder. Essa genealogia possibilitou o engajamento convincente das organizações islâmicas ao longo do atual processo de mudanças políticas, ainda que elas tenham participado diretamente dos protestos e das transformações políticas subsequentes apenas em uma etapa relativamente mais tardia |
