| English abstract | This article analyzes the process of migration and establishment of a group from Alagoas to Jurujuba, Niterói (RJ), a district with remarkable tradition in the fishing activity. As a theoretical frame I articulated the concepts of Migration, Social Memory and Oral History, making it possible to verify the social mechanisms used by the group to integrate into the new environment and settle in the locality. Among these strategies it must be mentioned the practice of extracting mussels and subsequently the mariculture. Joining the mariculture was possible because the group engaged in a project that contributed to the recognition of the group in Jurujuba and within the state productive sector. One could say that such integration has contributed to the fact that the studied group did not return to their place of origin, as opposed to what is often described in migration studies |
| Portuguese abstract | Este trabalho analisa o processo de migração de um grupo de alagoanos para o bairro de Jurujuba, localidade com marcante tradição na atividade pesqueira de Niterói (RJ). Fazendo uso do arcabouço teórico referente aos processos migratórios, à memória social e à história oral, foi possível verificar os mecanismos utilizados pelo grupo para se estabelecer e se integrar na localidade. Entre esses mecanismos, merece destaque a prática de extração de mexilhões e, posteriormente, a maricultura. O ingresso na maricultura se deu pelo engajamento em um projeto que favoreceu para o reconhecimento do grupo tanto na comunidade de Jurujuba quanto no âmbito do setor produtivo estadual. Cabe dizer que o envolvimento nesse projeto contribuiu para que o grupo estudado não retornasse ao seu local de origem, ao contrário do que frequentemente descrevem outros estudos sobre migração |
