| Spanish abstract | El propósito del artículo es analizar tres instancias que marcaron la relación económica entre China y América Latina durante el largo periodo comprendido entre el siglo XVI hasta la actualidad. Ellas son: el galeón de Manila (1565-1815), la migración de los culíes a las economías exportadoras de América Latina (1850-1890) y el reciente proceso de injerencia de capitales e inversión la RPCH en la realidad económica latinoamericana (1980-2019). La modalidad y características que asumieron cada una de estas vinculaciones se analizarán en la propia evolución de la globalización de la que formaron parte. Se utilizan fuentes del Nacional Histórico de Madrid y datos económicos publicados por la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL). Se añade una extensa lista de trabajos bibliográficos de diferentes universos historiográficos que poco diálogo han tenido entre sí hasta el momento. El ensayo finaliza identificando los grandes ejes geohistóricos que hicieron posible la relación entre ambos espacios en el pasado y se interroga sobre si el nuevo proyecto chino proyectado desde 2015 One Belt One Road (obor) o también conocido como “la nueva ruta de la seda” representa el eje geo-histórico donde se asentará la relación en el siglo XXI |
| English abstract | The objective of this article is to analyze three situations that shaped the economic relationship between China and Latin America over the long period from the 16th Century to the present day: the Manila Galleons (1565-1815), the immigration of coolies to the exportoriented economies of Latin America (1850-1890) and the recent process of capital injection and investment by the People’s Republic of China (1980-2019). The modalities and characteristics of each of these relationships are analyzed as part of the evolution of globalization. The sources used include documents from the National Historical Archive of Spain and the data published by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). There is also a long list of bibliographic entries from different historiographic universes that have had little dialogue until now. The article concludes by identifying the major geohistorical axes that made possible a relationship between both spaces in the past, and questions if China’s new One Belt One Road (OBOR) project, also known as the “New Silk Road,” will represent the geohistorical axis that will lay the basis for the relationship in the 21st Century |
