| English abstract | This work presents itself as an attempt – a word that in the German language, Versuch, also means essay – to identify, through a historiographical debate with some of the recent criticisms of Sérgio Buarque de Holanda’s Raízes do Brasil, the modulations of historicity of writing and historical discipline itself in the first half of the twentieth century in Brazil. The guiding line of our reasoning is the hypothesis that the writing of that history, set by the essay as form, brings, in the work itself, implications that reveal peculiarities of the national context. Among these peculiarities, we find the emblematic issue that the author becomes a kind of “bridge-author” of these modulations after the publication of the essay in 1936. Thus, in addition to identifying how the readings and re-readings of the book change vis-à-vis the changes in the historiographical perspectives, we draw out, as part of a broader research, the way it morphs itself structurally, in a challenging and living process of writing and rewriting |
| Portuguese abstract | Este trabalho consubstancia-se como uma tentativa – palavra que no idioma alemão, Versuch, designa também ensaio – de identificar, por meio de um diálogo com parte da recente fortuna crítica de Raízes do Brasil, de Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, elementos pontuais que evidenciam as modulações da historicidade da escrita e da própria disciplina histórica na primeira metade do século XX brasileiro. Como fio argumentativo, lançamos a hipótese segundo a qual a escritura daquela história, configurada pela forma ensaio, traz, na obra mesma, implicações que revelam particularidades do contexto nacional. Entre essas particularidades, encontra-se o fato emblemático de o próprio autor estudado se constituir como um “autor-ponte” de tais modulações logo após a publicação do livro de 1936. Destarte, além de identificar como as leituras e releituras de Raízes do Brasil se modificam na medida em que se alteram as perspectivas historiográficas, procuramos esboçar, como parte de pesquisa mais ampla, o modo como o próprio livro se metamorfoseia estruturalmente, num desafiante processo vivo de escritura e reescritura |
