Spanish abstract | El artículo tiene como objetivo mostrar el proceso de autopercepción que tenían diferentes autores de dos ciudades del Caribe colombiano, Cartagena y Barranquilla, alrededor del espacio geográfico y su población durante la primera mitad del siglo XX. Se mostrara como dentro de la dinámica que buscaba consolidar a estas ciudades como destinos turísticos y comerciales no se podían negar los discursos que colocaban a las regiones tropicales como no aptas para el progreso |
English abstract | The article aims to show the process of self-perception of elite Cartagena and Barranquilla, about geographic space and its population during the first half of the twentieth century. It will be shown as within the dynamics that sought to consolidate these cities as tourist and business destinations could not deny the statements which placed the tropics as unfit for progress |
