| Spanish abstract | Se realizó este trabajo con la finalidad de conocer las causas de rechazo del dispositivo intrauterino (DIU) posparto en las puérperas antes del egreso hospitalario. Se estudiaron 200 puérperas a quienes se les insertó el DIU y 200 puérperas quienes rechazaron la inserción del DIU. Se les realizó una encuesta investigando los motivos para aceptar o no el DIU, así como el grado de conocimiento sobre dicho método anticonceptivo. No existieron diferencias entre los grupos en relación con edad, escolaridad, religión, estado civil, y grado de conocimiento sobre el DIU. 51% tuvo control prenatal. El 62% de puérperas que rechazaron la colocación del DIU posparto no tenían información sobre el DIU, en 17% el esposo se negó a que se lo colocaran y 0.5% habían sido expuestas a rumores negativos en relación con el DIU. En conclusión las puérperas rechazan la colocación del DIU posparto principalmente por falta de conocimiento sobre el DIU y negativa de los esposos para su colocación |
| English abstract | The objective of this study was to determine the causes of rejection to intrauterine device postpartum (IDP) in puerperal patients before they left the hospital. Two hundred puerperal patients who accepted IDP and two hundred patients who rejected IDP were studied. They received a questionnaire to know the motives to accept or not IDP and degree of knowledge about it. There was not statistical differences between groups in relation to age, scholarity, religion, marital status, occupation and degree of knowledge, 51% had prenatal control, 62% of puerperal patients who rejected IDP did not have information about this contraceptive method, in 17% husband did not accept it and 9.5% have been influenced by negative rumors about IDP. In conclusion puerperal patients reject IDP mainly for lack of knowledge in relation to IDP and because their husbands did not accept it |
