| English abstract | The agricultural changes are fundamental in order to understand the rural space as well as the territorial dynamics. In such context the territorial unity of Mata – RS was studied due to the importance of the agricultural activities and its social space organization, because they compose the base of its productive matrix. This research aims at: (a) verifying the evolution and the current situation of rice and tobacco in Mata from 1970 to 2007 and (b) analyzing the rice and tobacco productive chains and their importance as a reorganizer agent of the local productive space. Methodologically, first the theoretical matrixes were rescued. Afterwards, a field work was carried out, in which rice and tobacco crops were analyzed in the local social space organization. Simultaneously, information was collected, through IBGE and FEE agricultural and livestock census. In such way, it was found that although the productive sector in Mata is being restructuring due to the dynamics imposed by the capital, through the productive chains of livestock and dairy cattle, soy beans and corn, rice and tobacco are the crops which offer higher development and profit making the rural space essential to promote the regional/local development of Mata |
| Portuguese abstract | As transformações agrícolas são fundamentais na compreensão do espaço rural e para o entendimento das dinâmicas territoriais. Nesse contexto, estudou-se a unidade territorial de Mata/RS, em decorrência da importância das atividades agrícolas na sua organização socioespacial, pois estas se constituem no alicerce da sua matriz produtiva. Os objetivos da pesquisa buscaram: (a) verificar a evolução e a situação atual do arroz e do fumo no município, tendo como escala temporal 1970-2007 e (b) analisar as cadeias produtivas do arroz e do fumo e sua importância como agente reorganizador do espaço produtivo local. Metodologicamente, inicialmente fez-se o resgate das matrizes teóricas. Posteriormente, realizou-se o trabalho de campo, no qual se procurou analisar as culturas do arroz e do fumo na organização socioespacial local. Paralelamente, coletaram-se informações, via dados dos censos agropecuários do IBGE e da FEE. Dessa forma, aponta-se que apesar do setor produtivo de Mata esteja se reestruturando frente às dinâmicas impostas pelo capital, através das cadeias produtivas da pecuária de corte e de leite, da cultura da soja e do milho, são os cultivos do arroz e do fumo os que proporcionam maior desenvolvimento e retorno financeiro tornando o espaço rural essencial para promover o desenvolvimento local/regional de Mata |
