| English abstract | Th e purpose of this paper is to analyze the cultural diversity laid on the traditional communities located along and in the islands of the medium São Francisco river in the state of Minas Gerai s, Brazil. We developed our study based in discussions and researches about the adaptation needs of those communities with nature, social conditions and their own social structures. This paper allows at first a better understanding of the cultural landsca pe of high medium São Francisco, having as main objective find ways to recognize local cultures of the involved communities, considering the enhancement of knowledge and creative practices that form the cultural identity, local and regionally. We seek to highlight the forms of belonging and ownership of the territories, the respect to the traditions, the customs, the creeds, the shares and symbolic expressions that result in the production and reproduction of a material and immaterial life, reflected in multiple categories of subjects and locations used to define their identities |
| Portuguese abstract | A proposta deste artigo é analisar a diversidade cultural presente nas comunidades tradicionais localizadas nas margens e ilhas do médio rio São Francisco no Estado de Minas Gerais - Brasil. Desenvolvemos nosso estudo pautado em discussões e pesquisas realizadas acerca das necessidades de adaptação destas comunidades à natureza, às condições sociais e à própria estrutura social organizada por elas. A elaboração deste artigo possibilita em primeiro plano um melhor entendimento da paisagem cultural do alto médio rio São Francisco, tendo como objetivo principal propiciar modos e meios de reconhecimento das culturas locais das comunidades envolvidas, considerando a valorização de seus saberes e práticas criativas e criadoras de uma identidade cultural local e regional. Buscamos evidenciar as formas de pertencimento e da apropriação dos territórios, o respeito às tradições, aos costumes, aos credos, as partilhas e as expressões simbólicas que resultam na produção e reprodução de uma vida material e imaterial, refletida nas múltiplas categorias de sujeitos e lugares usados para definirem as suas identidades sanfranciscanas |
