| English abstract | The 1980s was marked by a series of claims/public demonstrations of rural workers employed in sugarcane productions in São Paulo. This article covers elements that allow us to understand the reasons that led to the outbreak of the Strike in Guariba in 1984, and from awareness/mobilization issued from this demonstration, many leaders emerged in the midst of struggles, in order to prompt reflection for workers about the exploratory conditions they were subjected in the cane fields. Beyond the labor achievements, the struggle for agrarian reform in the region was one of the important facts to consider in this context. Thus, due to this process, the conquest of Rural Settlement of “Córrego Rico”, located in Jaboticabal-SP, neighboring municipality Guariba, will be discussed in this article |
| Portuguese abstract | A década de 1980 foi marcada por uma série de reivindicações públicas de trabalhadores rurais assalariados da lavoura canavieira no interior paulista. Esse artigo aborda elementos que permitem entender os motivos que levaram à eclosão da Greve de Guariba de 1984 e, a partir da conscientização/mobilização emanada nessa manifestação, muitos líderes surgiram no bojo das lutas, a fim de suscitar a reflexão aos trabalhadores sobre as condições exploratórias a que eram submetidos nos canaviais. Além da obtenção de direitos trabalhistas, a luta por Reforma Agrária na região foi um dos importantes fatores a se considerar nesse contexto. Sendo assim, decorrente desse processo, a conquista do Assentamento rural de Córrego Rico, situado em Jaboticabal-SP, município vizinho à Guariba, terá uma discussão recorrente nesse artigo |
