| Spanish abstract | Tras un primer intento fallido, en 1645 se fundó el primer y único monasterio femenino dominico de clausura en el Nuevo Reino de Granada, cuya sede se ubicó en la ciudad de Santafé. Un total de 218 religiosas profesaron en este cenobio desde su fundación hasta el año de 1800, junto a otras mujeres de distintos sectores sociales que habitaron estos espacios, pero ejerciendo roles y labores distintas. El artículo tiene como propósito analizar, desde una perspectiva histórica y basados en fuentes documentales inéditas, la configuración y la organización social del monasterio durante el siglo XVIII, con el fin de contribuir a la caracterización de las mujeres que convivieron en dicho lugar, estudiar el sistema de prácticas y hábitos mediante el cual se desarrolló la vida en comunidad en el interior del convento, así como aportar, en una mayor escala, a la comprensión de la espiritualidad femenina neogranadina |
| English abstract | The first and only Dominican female monastery in the Nuevo Reino de Granada was founded in Santafé, in 1645. A total of 218 nuns professed there between its inception and 1800. They were joined by other women coming from several social sectors, who were in charge of different tasks and fulfilling separate roles. This paper analyzes the configuration and social organization of the convent during the eighteenth century, using unpublished sources read from a historical perspective. The article will contribute to the characterization of the women who inhabited it, to the understanding of the system of practices and customs that shaped the community life within the convent and to the comprehension of female neogranadine spirituality |
