| English abstract | The theory of concepts is gaining more representati on in contemporary analytic philosophy. Jerry Fodor advocates the much controversial theory that the concepts are innate to man. Fiona Cowie argues that innateness is a confused notion and has been defended in various ways during the history of philosophy. Critics such as Hilary Putnam believ e that the nativism of concepts is absurd when confronted with the Darwinian theory of evolution, since, according to him, the two theories are incompatible and he prefers the latter. The author of this article intends to show that there are two options in addition to that presented by Putnam. Fu rther rejecting the path taken by Putnam, he also rejects another option that attempts to reconcile t he concept of nativism with the Darwinian theory. H e intends to support a third option, where the concep t of nativism is more plausible that the Darwinian theory and that, moreover, it is compatible with bi blical theism |
| Portuguese abstract | A teoria dos conceitos vem ganhando cada vez mais representatividade na filosofia analítica contemporânea. Jerry Fodor defende a tese bem polêmica de que os conceitos são inatos ao homem. Fiona Cowie afirma que o inatismo é uma noção confusa e que foi defendida de várias maneiras durante a história da filosofia. Críticos como Hilary Putnam acreditam que o inatismo de conceitos é absurdo qua ndo confrontado com a teoria da evolução darwiniana, já que, segundo ele, as duas t eorias são incompatíveis e devemos preferir a segunda. Pretendo mostrar que existem ma is duas opções além da apresentada por Putnam. Além de rejeitar o caminho tomado por Putna m, também rejeito outra opção que tenta reconciliar o inatismo de conceitos com a teo ria darwiniana. Pretendo sustentar uma terceira opção, na qual o inatismo de conceitos é m ais plausível que a teoria darwiniana, e que, além disso, o inatismo de conceitos é compatív el com o teísmo bíblico |
