English abstract | The purpose of this article is to explain and discuss the sacred-profane dichotomy as applied to music. Is it possible to identify traits that will define precisely the boundaries between both musical forms? Music is both science and language, and as such it is permeated by structural form and expressed content. However, specifically in music, the content tends to change the form depending on the author’s purpose. By means of musical thought and history in a comparative way, the author examines the veracity of the sacred-profane dichotomy. Reformed biblical assumptions also guide the article and its conclusions |
Portuguese abstract | O objetivo deste artigo é explanar e discutir a dicotomia sacro-profano aplicada à música.
