| English abstract | This article addresses briefly the debates among ideological currents established in Portugal and transferred to Brazil in the nineteenth century. The movements and individuals discussed are Royal Patronage, Galicanism, Jansenism, Regalism, Ultramontanism, the Oratorians, the Marquis of Pombal, the expulsion of the Jesuits from Portugal, the penetration of Jansenist ideas in Brazil (the Theology of Lyons and the Catechism of Montpellier ), the Patrocinio priests and Diogo Antônio Feijó. The author concludes by stressing the eclectic character of Brazilian Catholicism |
