| English abstract | The author addresses the main topic of controversy and disagreement among Protestants in the sixteenth century – the understanding of the Lord’s Supper. He presents briefly the three different positions that arose about this ordinance: physical presence (Lutherans), symbolic presence (Zwinglians), and spiritual presence (Calvinists). After considering some of the chief emphases of Luther’s and Zwingli’s thought on the matter, Campos lingers on a more detailed analysis of Calvin’s reflection as he presents the main features of his Eucaristic thought and the main dangers he sought to avoid in the treatment of this subject |
| Portuguese abstract | O autor aborda o principal tema de controvérsia e desacordo entre os pro - testantes no século 16 – o entendimento da Ceia do Senhor. São apresentadas sucintamente as três diferentes posições que surgiram sobre essa ordenança: presença física (luteranos), presença simbólica (zuinglianos) e presença espi - ritual (calvinistas). Após considerar algumas das principais ênfases do pensa - mento de Lutero e de Zuínglio, Campos se detém numa análise mais detalhada da reflexão de Calvino, apresentando os principais traços do seu pensamento eucarístico e os principais perigos que o reformador de Genebra quis evitar no tratamento dessa doutrina |
