| English abstract | Biosafety involves preventive measures against hazards arising from the scientific and technological development, which are required in order to understand the new realities arising from advances in biotechnology. The present study aimed to demonstrate the importance of education in biosafety as a curriculum component in Biotechnology Course in the scientific education training of students from Federal University of Uberlandia. The analysis of the questionnaire applied has confirmed the reductionist view of the students in the first period, since it was only related to biosafety laboratory practices. The profile of responses given by the students has changed during the course and that corroborated to the importance of biosafety in the recovery of a science and technology education. | Portuguese abstract | A biossegurança envolve ações preventivas contra os riscos provenientes do desenvolvimento científico e tecnológico, visando à proteção dos seres vivos e do ambiente. Conceitos e práticas embasados nessa ciência são exigidos para entender as novas realidades advindas do avanço da biotecnologia. Nesta pesquisa demonstrou-se a importância da educação em biossegurança enquanto componente curricular do Curso de Biotecnologia na formação científica dos alunos da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. A análise do questionário aplicado confirmou a visão reducionista dos alunos do primeiro período, uma vez que a biossegurança foi relacionada, apenas, às práticas laboratoriais. O perfil de respostas mudou com o Curso da disciplina, corroborando sua importância na valorização de uma educação científica e tecnológica. Portanto, contextualizar a biossegurança é uma estratégia crucial que deve ser adotada na formação dos indivíduos, de suas relações interpessoais e com o meio ambiente e de sua consciência profissional; conceitos inerentes à biotecnologia |
