| English abstract | The aim of this paper is to study the characteristic profile of the Argentinean tobacco industry, both in reference to the production of raw material and to manufacture. The plan is to account for the durability of an economic activity defined by the fiscal, productive and social contrasts that, however, manages to remain as a “traditional and pleasurable expression” – with its diverse brands, presentations and flavors – in the everyday life of the Argentinean people. Business concentration, privilege and conflict are the chosen focus to reach this purpose |
| Portuguese abstract | O objetivo deste trabalho é estudar os perfis que caracterizam a indústria fumageira argentina, tanto no tocante aos aspectos inerentes à produção de matéria-prima, quanto no de sua manufatura. A proposta é interpretar a permanência de uma atividade econômica definida pelos contrastes fiscais, produtivos e sociais, que não obstante consegue manter-se no tempo como uma “expressão tradicional e prazerosa” – com suas marcas, suas representações, seus sabores – na vida cotidiana dos argentinos. Concentração empresarial, privilégios e conflitos, são os eixos escolhidos para atingir tal propósito |
