| English abstract | the aim of this study was to evaluate, on a large scale, diversification of species belonging to 57 orders of fish. Due to the influence of phylogenetic relationships among taxa, we used the method of phylogenetic independent contrasts. It can be concluded that the increase of species within the orders of fish studied does not correspond to greater diversification in the freshwater environment. This result corroborates recent studies that focus on the high diversity and high rate of speciation in marine environments |
| Portuguese abstract | o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar, em grande escala, a diversificação de espécies pertencentes a 57 ordens de peixes. Devido à influência da relação filogenética entre os táxons, foi utilizado o método de contrastes filogenéticos independentes. Pode-se concluir que o aumento de espécies dentro das ordens de peixes estudadas não corresponde a uma maior diversificação no ambiente de água doce. Este resultado corrobora estudos atuais que enfocam a alta diversidade e alta taxa de especiação em ambientes marinhos |
