| English abstract | The paper presents analysis of solid waste (household, recyclable, green and hospital) generated by the city of Pinhais 2006 to 2010, studies the increase in waste and suggest improvements in environmental education programs aimed at raising awareness of residents regarding the unbundling correct garbage and can to make plans and goals for the reduction of waste and therefore reduce costs. As a result there was an increase in all types of waste during the year, 2010 with the highest average solid waste, especially in the collection of recyclables. The adoption of appropriate policies and technological solutions is key to the solid waste problem, but the challenge extends to the whole society.This study presents a quantitative analysis of solid waste (household, recyclable, green and hospital) generated by the city of Pinhais from 2006 to 2010. A progressive increase in all types of waste generated during the period was observed, and 2010 with the highest average, especially in the collection of recyclables. The increase in waste generation demand improvements in environmental education programs that are being carried out, leading citizens to make the correct separation of waste, and shows the need for developing appropriate plans and goals, aimed at reducing waste generated and hence a cost reduction. The adoption of appropriate technological and political solutions is fundamental to the management of municipal solid waste. This is a challenge to be faced not only by government but also by the society as a whole |
| Portuguese abstract | O presente estudo apresenta uma análise quantitativa dos resíduos sólidos (domiciliar, reciclável, verde e hospitalar) gerados pelo município de Pinhais de 2006 a 2010. Registrou-se um aumento progressivo em todos os tipos de resíduos gerados durante o período, sendo 2010 com maior média, principalmente na coleta de lixo reciclável. O aumento verificado na geração de resíduos demanda melhorias nos programas de educação ambiental em andamento, que visem à conscientização dos munícipes em relação à separação correta do lixo, bem como a elaboração de planos e metas visando a redução do lixo gerado e, consequentemente, uma redução de custos. A adoção de soluções políticas e tecnológicas adequadas é fundamental para o gerenciamento dos resíduos sólidos urbanos. Isso constitui um desafio a ser encarado não somente pelo poder público, mas também pela sociedade como um todo |
