| English abstract | The space between pleural sheets is filled out with an plasma ultrafiltered called pleural fluid and its major function is the lubrification of the pleural surface helping the respiratory movements. Several primary and secondary pathologies affect the homeostasis of this liquid resulting in alterations quali and quantitative. The objective of the work is to propose a standardization of the cytological analysis of pleural fluid, increasing the reproductiveness and the precision of the results. The knowledge and execution of the techniques in the right way are essential for great results. Mistakes in any stage can result in alterations that can be significant and consequently it can damage the differentiation of transudate and exsudate, necessary for the diagnosis and therapeutic conduct. The standardization reduces the possibility of mistakes intra and inter-laboratories, increasing the reproductiveness, precision and exactness of the results, helping the doctor effectively in the determination of the etiology, diagnosis and treatment |
