| Spanish abstract | El presente artículo esboza una evaluación tentativa de la vitalidad etnolingüística actual de la lengua mapuche en Chile en el marco de los parámetros propuestos por Landweer (2000) y sobre la base de los resultados de la encuesta específica realizada por el Centro de Estudios Públicos en 2006. La principal conclusión es que el mapudungun parece encontrarse en un estado de precariedad sociolingüística, y que sólo políticas públicas e iniciativas privadas que conduzcan a una revitalización efectiva y eficaz en el corto plazo lograrán salvar a la lengua de la extinción inminente |
| English abstract | The article sketches out a tentative evaluation of the actual ethno-linguistic vitality of the Mapuche language in Chile within the framework proposed by Landweer (2000) and on the basis of the specific investigation carried out by the Centre of Public Studies in 2006. The principal conclusion is that mapudungun seems to be in a state of socio-linguistic peril, and that only public and private initiatives that lead to an effective and efficient revitilization in the short term can save the language from imminent extinction |
