| Spanish abstract | Este artículo analiza la vida y obra del historiador chileno Gonzalo Bulnes. En primer lugar, se presentan los principales datos biográficos de Bulnes, los cuales dan cuenta de la generación intelectual a la que perteneció. Luego se discuten algunos conceptos como “nacionalismo” y “positivismo” con el fin de comprender las principales corrientes historiográficas que influyeron el trabajo de Bulnes. Finalmente, se intenta diferenciar a Bulnes el historiador de Bulnes el político, argumentando que, aun cuando en su obra fue un obsecuente defensor del papel de los militares en la construcción de la república, en política defendió siempre la supremacía de los partidos políticos y la civilidad |
| English abstract | This article studies the life and work of Chilean historian Gonzalo Bulnes. First, it presents some of the most important aspects of Bulnes' biography, which account for the intellectual generation to which he belonged. Then, it discusses concepts like “nationalism” and “positivism” in order to understand the main historiographical trends that influenced his work. Finally, it tries to differentiate Bulnes the historian from Bulnes the politician, arguing that although in his work he supported the role of the military in the construction of the republic, in politics he always defended the supremacy of civilians and political parties |
