| Spanish abstract | En las páginas que siguen se reproduce la polémica que se suscitó entre el director del Centro de Estudios Públicos, Arturo Fontaine Talavera, y el historiador Gonzalo Rojas Sánchez en torno a la posición que debieran tener las fuerzas armadas respecto del golpe del 11 de septiembre de 1973 y el posterior gobierno militar en chile. La polémica, que tuvo lugar en el cuerpo dominical del diario El Mercurio entre el 12 de enero y el 2 de febrero de 2003, se inicia con el artículo "El Ejército Hoy y el Golpe del 73", en el que Arturo Fontaine T. manifiesta su respaldo a recientes declaraciones del Comandante en Jefe, general Juan Emilio Cheyre, respecto a que el Ejército no es "el heredero político" del gobierno militar. El domingo siguiente (19 de enero de 2003), Gonzalo Rojas Sánchez le responde a Arturo Fontaine T. discrepando de su posición. La polémica sigue en el mismo matutino con la réplica de Arturo Fontaine T., "Ejército para Algunos" (26 de enero) y con el artículo de Gonzalo Rojas, "Fidelidad Militar" (2 de febrero de 2003) |
| English abstract | The text below reproduces the polemic that arose between the Director of Centro de Estudios Públicos, Arturo Fontaine Talavera, and historian Gonzalo Rojas Sanchez regarding the position that the armed forces should adopt as to the September 11, 1973 coup d’etat and the subsequent military government in Chile. The polemic, which took place in the Sunday edition of El Mercurio between January 12 and February 2, 2003, begins with the article "The Army Today and the ‘73 Coup d’Etat," in which Arturo Fontaine T. expresses his support for recent declarations by the Commander-in-Chief, General Juan Emilio Cheyre, in that the army is not the "political heir" to the military government. The next Sunday (January 19, 2003), Gonzalo Rojas Sanchez responded to Arturo Fontaine T., disagreeing with his position. The argument continued in that same newspaper with the response by Arturo Fontaine T., "An Army for Some" (January 26), and with the article by Gonzalo Rojas, "Military Fidelity" (February 2, 2003) |
