| Spanish abstract | Se presenta la doctrina de Santo Tomás de Aquino, fundada en aquella de Aristóteles, relativa al auténtico sentido de la verdad práctica, concebida como diferente de la especulativa, caracterizada por su fin específico, consistente en poner en la existencia una obra exterior al hombre (poiesis) o bien una acción propiamente humana (praxis). Para actuar rectamente se requiere dirigir la acción en conformidad con un apetito recto. De este modo la vida moral no es obra de puro conocimiento sino que requiere necesariamente la participación de los apetitos, lo cuales, si están moldeados por la prudencia, permitirán actuar rectamente |
| English abstract | The doctrine of St. Thomas Aquinas, founded on that of Aristotle, is presented here. It concerns the authentic meaning of practical truth, conceived as different from that of a speculative nature, characterized by its specific purpose, consisting in the existence of a work external to Man (poiesis) or an actual human action (praxis). In both practical domains, reason is directed toward movement that is acted by will. To act righteously, it is necessary to direct action in accordance with an upright appetite, which ultimately means to act in a prudent manner. In this way, the moral life is not the work of pure knowledge but necessarily requires the participation of appetites, which, if molded by prudence, will allow one to act righteously |
