| Spanish abstract | En este trabajo el autor estudia el problema surgido entre Francisco Montes, líder de la etnia pima, y los misioneros jesuitas de la Pimería Alta por las actividades mercantiles y de tipo individualista que aquél intentó desarrollar dentro de los límites jurisdiccionales de las misiones, lo que provocó desde luego la reacción airada de los jesuitas porque infringía las normas y valores de la comunidad misional y ponía en duda la hasta entonces indiscutible autoridad de los misioneros. También se apunta en este trabajo la cautelosa actuación de las autoridades civiles por su interés en mantener la paz en la región |
| English abstract | In this work the author studies the problem that aroused between Francisco Montes, one leader of the Pima nation, and the Jesuit missionaries of the Pimería Alta because of the mercantile activities of individualistic character that Montes tried to pursuit inside the boundaries of the missions. Such action provoked the angry reaction of the Jesuits because violated the standards and values of the missionary communities and questioned the so far undisputed authority of the Ignatians. It is also commented in this study the cautious performance of the civil authorities in their effort to maintain peace in the province |
