| English abstract | This family was established in New Spain at the end of seventeenth century with the arrival of brothers Jerónimo and Luis whom started a vast lineage whose descendants continued till our times. The familiar reconstruction of the Monterde and Antillón in the colonial period accomplished by the authors (and structured in three parts) allow us to know the conformation of a group that trough a selective marriage policy obtained control of important spaces in New Spain, mainly in Mexico City and Veracruz, and whose connections spread to bureaucracy, army and commerce. The family group, through its feminine lines, extended to become one of those extensive families that acted as “shelter-niche” of successful Spaniards “newly arrived”, favoring the permanent establishment of other names and families in New Spain. The social prestige of the Monterde and Antillón lineage reached its maximum expression in Mexico when one of its members was granted with the nobility title of count de la Presa de Jalpa |
